Shaw Island, WA

We've lived full-time on Shaw Island since 2000. It's a peaceful, quite, and beautiful island about 80 miles north of Seattle in the San Juan Islands. Shaw is the smallest of the four Washington State Ferry served islands. We have no commercial businesses on the island that attract visitors: no hotels, No B&Bs, no restaurants, no gas stations, no marinas, no stores except a small market at the ferry landing. We do have electricity, telephone, and even DSL, but no cable, no gas. Some islanders have good wells for water, many use catchment systems to catch rainfall. We desalinate seawater since our property is so close to the ocean that any well would be brackish.

The island has approximately 200 full time residents, swelling to as many as 400 in the summer. It is about 7 miles long, 3 miles wide, and has about 20 miles of paved roads. Our House is on the Northern-most tip os Shaw, on Broken Point.

We built our main house (we call it the Point House) in 2000, and in 2003 bought the Isthmus House from Helen Story's estate to use as our day work shop. The point house is at the end of a 3/4 mile long gravel/dirt private road/driveway and is located on the tip of Broken Point.

We love it here!
